Chess Players - Overview
The most important part of a chess game are the two players. Players have different styles, opening repertoires and experience. This section will provide information about famous and successfull players and their games. The players were active between around 1850 and today. We will see the development of chess and the sometimes tragic lifes of the great masters.
We will concentrate of these groups of players:
- Chess World Champions
( we start with the first official match between Steinitz and Zukertort and cover all World Champions up to the current World Champion V. Anand. In times where we had title holders from different organizations both players are recorded as World Champion ) - Super Grandmasters
( Super Grandmasters are for us players who made it in the Top 20 of their time ) - Grandmasters
( all players who ever held a FIDE Grandmaster title. Additionally before FIDE Players who managed to get a historical ELO of 2500 or higher)
Where titles were officially not existent at the time, we add the players according to their results in the specific categories.
Of great help was herewith the ChessMetrics site which offers calculations about historical chess ratings.
